A long awaited visitor

We have said farewell to Joy and Cliff adter a few relaxing days in the marina. We had some beach walks and a few sunset cocktails and declared them two of the best ‘limers’ to date.
We have not much to report as the weather has curtailed our travels considerably. The winds have been really strong, it has been persistent sprinkles at times and lots of cloud. However the sun continues to shine long enough to make you appreciate it.
We went to Gros Islet on Friday night for the ‘jump up’ with some friends. Our previous experience of it had been somewhat daunting and we didn’t take Joy and Cliff for a variety of reasons.
Anyway this time it was a great night. All the local folk come to the ‘jumpup’. It is kind of their TGIF way to let of the steam/stresses of the working week.
There a re food stalls a plenty where lots of the local creole dishes are on offer. The wind was blowing hard on Friday night and some of the spraks from the BBQ’s were quite risky. The kebabs were a bit of a challenge in terms of what was on them. Eventually figured it was kidney and liver (well I guess my iron levels were needing topped up). The local doggies enjoyed the feed. Then I had a pastie filled with a mixed veggie mash – it was goreous and provided a good tummy liner for the alcohol.
The music was good and there was lots of dancing – some of it bordering on getting down and dirty but very interesting to watch. Some of the hip swivveling would put Elvis to shame. One of the local lads who had greeted us on our arrival in St Lucia joined us. It gave us the opportunity to meet his friends and work colleagues. One of the guys was from Glasgow and had only arrived 2 weeks earlier to start work in the local newspaper. Think he was still adjusting to the culture change. It was a fun night and we really enjoyed sharing it with friends. We all agreed it was far better than the initial experience.
We are currently waiting for Jo who is mid Atlantic at present. Isaac is booked to take us to the airport so we will get another island tour. That will be good as today it is wet, windy and very cloudy and on days like that there is not a lot to do here.
Tomorrow we will start a trip to Tobago Keys and hopefully find the sun again.
